Artwork Description
"Footprints of yesterday" is a handwoven tapestry created on a pedal loom, blending vibrant colors and geometric shapes to capture the spirit of Peru’s rich heritage. This abstract piece reimagines ancestral symbols, offering a modern interpretation that bridges the past and the present.
Throughout the design, you can sense echoes of Andean culture: stepped patterns inspired by the Chakana, the Andean Cross symbolizing balance and harmony; geometric motifs that hint at toqapus, the intricate designs once used to represent identity in Inca textiles; and flowing forms that evoke sacred mountains, known as Apus, protectors of the Andes.
The warm, vivid colors and fluid lines tell a story of duality—the harmony of opposites like day and night, life and death. You can almost imagine ancient roads, like the Qhapaq Ñan, winding through the tapestry, connecting people and places. Subtle references to the sun and moon remind us of the profound connection between the earthly and the divine.
This tapestry is more than art—it’s a journey into the heart of Andean traditions, reinterpreted for today. "Footprints of yesterday" carries the soul of a culture, honoring the mastery of ancient weavers while bringing their legacy to life in a contemporary way.
